[Mauking]BIRD IS THE WORD
I didn’t want to miss out on the Kirby Day fun so here’s a quick Darkseid sketch I did on the back of an invitation to a wedding I didn’t go to because I am a great friend just like Darkseid.
Hats off to the late, great Jack Kirby.

Special guest (and possible Tulgey Wood creature) Tracie Mauk follows JoJo and Andrew down the rabbit hole of 1951’s Alice in Wonderland! The film seemed like a safe bet for Disney. Contrariwise, Lewis Carroll’s books are nearly unfilmable! Your frabjous hosts take a look at Alice's decades-long road to the screen, the monumental task faced by the studio as it struggled to recover from World War II, the many things that set it apart from the rest of the Disney canon, and why Walt was ultimately unsatisfied with it. Furthermore: the importance of Mary Blair, the life of Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, crazy colors, and the king (hooray). 'Tis brillig!

Omaha Improv Festival 2014

image

Big week kicking off tomorrow night! The 2nd Annual Omaha Improv Festival is here and it looks to be bigger and better than last year’s already huge and fantastic week of improvisational comedy. We have a ton of great teams both local and visiting, as well as some major coaches dropping by to teach workshops and perform special shows.

I have the great fortune/death sentence of performing each night of the festival and it would be wonderful to see old friend and new faces and old friends WITH new faces during this phenomenal week of comedy. Because of how prolific/overabundant I’ll be and just how many great local/visiting teams there are, spread among 3 different locations, I thought it might be nice to put together a little key on where to find Tracie this week. I have underlined in bold the teams I will performing with this week (subject to change):

I drew Boomer from BSG for @lindseytheis’s birthday a while back. Still trying to get comfortable with the grayscale markers.

I drew this creepy Gambit for @zombieanna’s birthday. I don’t know why he’s creepy except that I guess he’s just Gambit. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ANNA!

Harry Potter x Mystery Science Theater 3000 art I did for @SenatorSquirrel’s 30th birthday meaning this is two years old and I only just realized I never posted it anywhere. I unfortunately didn’t make a scan of the hand-colored version she got.

It’s a might late but I drew this Nightwing for my pal @robbblum’s birthday.
There are some anatomical elements here that I’d say are fairly obviously influenced by some things I’ve been reading lately.
